Welcome to HOH!

I am an educator and handwriting instruction specialist working to change the misperceptions around handwriting’s role in literacy learning by clearing up common misunderstandings and explaining why handwriting remains a relevant and necessary skill. Let’s dive into the whys (research & experience) and hows (best practices) of handwriting instruction and discuss the lasting and ever-important role handwriting plays in our lives.

Hi, I’m Holly!

Writing by hand is uniquely human. And, regardless of the popularity and efficiencies of digital transcription, handwriting remains critical to processing thought. The hope of sharing knowledge and ideas here is to change the thinking around handwriting’s purpose in our world and to positively transform teaching practices in order to positively transform student learning. If we become better students, we will become better teachers.

A little more about me…

My own four children served as an intense training ground and laboratory for my career as an educator, writer, and founder of an early childhood curriculum company. (Piaget once said that the most informative lab work he ever conducted was that of raising his own three children!) My life’s work is fueled by a love for children and deep-seeded belief that we owe each one warm hugs, healthy food, and a quality education.

I’m blessed to live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains with my hubby, Zach, my dog, cats, and two horses Shasta and Dash.

What more you should know…

I explore far and wide to bring you the information presented here. From peer reviewed studies to podcast discussions, from published works to anecdotal evidence I present what’s happened, what’s happening, and what could happen to improve literacy learning through handwriting.

I love discussing my findings and experience on podcasts, in PD, and at conferences! If you really want to talk about it, contact me!

Happy Handwriting!
